From Washington, DC and Points North
Head South on I-95 to Richmond. Take I-295 East around Richmond (outer loop). Pick up I-64 East. Pick up 664 through the Monitor-Merrimac Bridge Tunnel towards Chesapeake. Exit onto 168 south which is a toll road, the Chesapeake Expressway. The toll is $2.00 each way. Follow 168 south, which turns into 158 South. Follow signs to Cape Hatteras National Seashore, NC 12 South.
From Charlotte, NC and Points West
Head North on I-85 to Greensboro. Pick up I-40 East toward Raleigh. Follow I-40 to 540 east, which bypasses Raleigh/Knightdale. Take US-64 toward Rocky Mount. Follow US-64 East to Manteo. Follow signs to Cape Hatteras National Seashore, NC 12 South.
From Savannah, GA and Points South
Head North on I-95 to Rocky Mount. Follow US-64 East to Manteo. Follow signs to Cape Hatteras National Seashore, NC 12 South.
Optional route from the South includes two ferry rides originating in Swan Quarter, NC or Cedar Island, NC, both of which are toll ferries and reservations are required. The Ocracoke to Hatteras ferry is free and reservations are not accepted. Please call 1-800-BYFERRY to make reservations or for more info.
