Spearfishing Hatteras

Hatteras is a popular spearfishing spot and these pictures prove it! Brian Kiddy, a frequent spearfishing enthusiast and visitor of Hatteras Island, was in town this past weekend with a group of other divers to take advantage of our beautiful weather and world class diving.

Brian shot this HUGE 77 lb. Cubera Snapper – AKA Dogtooth Snapper or Pargo on the West Coast. In addition to this monster they also wrangled Cobia, African Pompano, Trigger and Red Snapper just to mention a few. :)

Awesome job! :)

Cape Hatteras Ranks #7 in Top 10 Beaches in America!

Dr. Beach has done it again! He has ranked Cape Hatteras in his Top 10 Best Beaches in America list!

This year we rank at number 7 among the other domestic beach destinations on the very prestigious yet short list. We rank with other beaches in Hawaii, Florida and California and are very proud to have been named among the other awesome beaches.

The Cape Hatteras National Seashore offers 70 miles of pristine unspoiled beaches with natural beauty that is unlike any other in the world. I'd say as would anyone else who has visited our beautiful paradise that Dr. Beach sure knows his stuff!!

Memorial Day Remembrance

What a special day tomorrow is...a day filled with overwhelming emotions and the highest respect for our military men and women. My dad is a Vietnam Vet who proudly served in the US Army at a very young age. I am so proud of him every day for the sacrifice he endured and his unwavering patriotism. I love you, dad!

Happy Memorial Day to all those who have served and still serve our country to provide the freedom that is America. You are owed a huge debt of gratitude that can never be repaid. America needs to Remember now, more than ever. God Bless our troops!

Rusty's Surf & Turf Grill, Buxton

The big question on check in day is always "where's a good place to eat?" Well, the right question to ask with regard to restaurant suggestions is "where do YOU eat?" Locals always know where the best food can be found, where the service is phenomenal and the atmosphere is relaxing. The new hot spot for sure is Rusty's Surf & Turf Grill located in the heart of Buxton .

Newly opened this spring Chef Rusty Midgett has created a euphoric hot spot with fresh local seafood, melt in your mouth steaks and a large South of the Border selection. If none of these options strike your fancy you'll definitely find one of the other menu offerings sure to please. They also have a great wine list if you are so inclined to compliment your meal.

A great way to start the night is with their fresh made salsa and chips or perhaps one of the other many apps on the menu. After a hearty meal (my personal favorite Monkfish and Shrimp Pasta with Parmesan Cream Sauce...to die for!) you can't leave without indulging in a decadent dessert that will polish the night to a perfect finish.

Even if just passing by as you drive down Highway 12 the scents and smells of Rusty's creative concoctions as they are being prepared will surely grab your attention.

Eat where the locals eat and be sure to out Rusty's Surf & Turf Grill.

Outer Banks Fishing Club

I am finally finding time to blog about the goings on of the Outer Banks and Hatteras Island. It's been a busy spring!

I recently received an email about a new website: http://www.obxfc.com/club/ which is the Outer Banks Fishing Club. It's a cool site.

The purpose of the club is to increase awareness about things to do in our area while on vacation. There are links for weather, restaurants, Ferry schedules, Tide Charts and so much more. They have some awesome T's available for purchase online and you even receive a free decal with each purchase!

Come Fish Our Waters is their tag line and how appropriate. The fishing on the Outer Banks is awesome and so are our beaches. Friendly faces are abundant and relaxation is a way of life. Utilizing resources such as the Outer Banks Fishing Club you can make the most of your vacation!

Check it out!

NCIS References Cape Hatteras, NC

Did anyone see the NCIS episode last night? I love that show and we never miss an episode.

I was so excited when reference was made to Cape Hatteras. Apparently a Marine who was missing was said to vacationing in Cape Hatteras. He was of course cleared of any and all charges related to the case. The really good news is he has great taste in a vacation spot!

It seems lately there have been many references to Hatteras Island or Cape Hatteras in TV shows. Maybe it's due to the Nights in Rodanthe movie that displayed the natural beauty that is Hatteras Island creating an awareness of our tranquil pristine beaches and our laid back island lifestyle.

Oh, and don't forget...Nights in Rodanthe is now available on Pay Per View and on DVD in the event you haven't seen it yet. It's an awesome movie.

Vacation Traditions Comes to Facebook!

As a user of the ever increasingly popular Facebook, I decided to add our little vacation rental company to the mix. Our entire philosophy is to provide affordable vacation rentals on Hatteras Island, Rodanthe to Hatteras Village, and to provide outstanding personalized friendly service to our guests and owners.

Our company has grown considerably during our first season and we are so proud of what we have accomplished in such a short time. After Frank and Debbie Lorenzo decided with mixed emotions to retire, we acquired their well established rental company, Cape Escape Realty. Frank and Debbie had been in business for over 30 years and had consistently delivered personalized service to their clients and customers. We have enhanced their way of doing business by providing a comprehensive website with real time online availability and booking capabilities and by accepting MasterCard, Visa and Discover as well as personal and business checks accepted even the day of check in as verified through Telecheck.

Check us out and become a fan:
